This year marks the 160th anniversary of the passing of Domenico Maria Belzoppi, a prominent figure throughout a thirty-year period of San Marino life, committed to safeguarding the independence of the Republic and granting the right of asylum to the Italian patriots of the Risorgimento, five times Captain Regent and among the protagonists of the so-called “Garibaldian escape.” Belzoppi’s intricate political and human trajectory is illustrated in the spaces of the Palazzo Pubblico in an exhibition organized by the Istituti Culturali – Archivio e Biblioteca di Stato entitled “Domenico Maria Belzoppi. Life and vicissitudes from youth to exile,” which will open Thursday, April 18, at 6 p.m. with a free admission event and will be open to the public from April 19 to June 30, 2024.
